An illustration I did December 2010, just after my birthday. I've never been paid for it.
I just accidentally found it on the internet today where he's claiming an artist in California did it and was hurt and can't continue. And that artist was male. *looks at self* Well, I'm female and lived in Illinois when I did this. So I guess he's smoking crack.
Since he won't (or didn't) give me the proper credit for this image, I figured I'd take the credit myself the way it should be.
This is Janet.
She was created for a Creole children's book series. According to the author, she's based on his niece. He even sent me a photo of his niece to go on.
I did a LOT of research for her clothing, which is 1950's period dress, and the building behind her - which is based on a photo of a school in that time.
The shoes were a fight. They're not quite right for then, but the author wanted them black.
I was supposed to do a series of these but there was too much going on with my husband being deployed and all for me to continue. And besides, he already owed me for two t-shirt designs and was plainly not going to pay me for this as well. So I bowed out graciously and sent him these files to never receive payment. Even though he has promised over and over again to the point of nausea.
I don't care as much about the money. But the work is mine. So consider this childish post my big fat flag.
