Description

Another one of my "modern day" roots moments, to be ignored by the world at large (as usual). It's just that when I think of portraying my people, or any one of the other tribes, I sort of dislike putting them in war paint and feathers. It's not like our houses are museums filled with artifacts. =^-^= I just put them down like they really are, skin color and all - although I confess I prefer to portray the more fair-skinned of us. That's not out of any prejudice for the darker skinned members of the Native American nations. My father is pretty dark himself - so dark folks thought I was half Black most of my life. (Which isn't true, although I have cousins on both sides of my family who are.) I portray the fairer of us because no one does, and they don't like to.

It's like there's this stigma. You're not really red unless you're the color of a brown paper bag. Tell someone you're such-and-such a tribe when you've got light skin, light hair or even blue eyes and you're going to get called a wannabe or worse. It's rather cruel - as if these people would know who and what you are. Only you know who and what you are.

I also don't like portraying any one tribe. I just stick a person in modern day clothing do something that may or may not be associate with their background. It's up to you to pay attention if it's one of my roots moments or not. I'll put a feather or something somewhere: a clue. But you know. Just like real life, that's about it.

What you are worried about appears to be the product of other people's perceptions.  I wouldn't give a damn about what the uninformed think.  You know what you are, and what's real.  You can't convince the world of things the world doesn't want to learn or believe.
